And what a most wonderful Saturday morning session it was. There was not a boring moment at the Sherwood Auditorium in La Jolla Wu Han — Master teacher and seasoned performing artist who was Musical America’s 2012 Musician of the Year — shared a treasure trove of tips on performance and piano techniques with Adrian and the audience. Everyone who came away from the workshop not only enjoyed it but learned something new.

Congratulations to 15-year old Adrian on his “fantastic playing” (Wu Han’s own words). Truly a golden opportunity for a young pianist looking to build a solo career.

Adrian played two pieces:

The “Toccata” from Bach’s Partita in E minor, BMV 830 and
The 3rd Movement “Precipitato” from Prokofiev’s Piano Sonata No. 7 in B-flat Major, Op. 83

His playing of the latter piece won Adrian First Place in the 2014 US Open Music Competition (Showcase Piano Solo Intermediate category)in Palo Alto on February 4, 2014.

Participation of “KIDS Playing For KIDS” team members in La Jolla Music Society’s Coaching Workshops is an important component of FanFaire Foundation’s Youth Development Program. Young cellist Paul Maxwell, who had a private coaching session with the renowned Carter Brey, soloist and principal cellist of the New York Philharmonic last summer, will participate in the Winter Season’s third Coaching Workshop on March 23, 2014.
