HENRY GRONNIER, violin

Henry Gronnier is a founding member and the first violinist of the Rossetti String Quartet.* Early musical studies took place at the Conservatoire in his native town of Saint-Quentin, where he was awarded a Premier Prix in both violin and piano. He later studied with Madeleine Thuillier-Deverge at the Conservatoire National de Region de Versailles, where he received a Gold Medal. He continued his studies with Michele Auclair at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique in Paris. Other renowned violinists who influenced Henry include Sally Thomas, Zino Francescatti and Nell Gotkovsky with whom he studied while on a full scholarship at Tulsa University in Oklahoma.

As a soloist, he has performed worldwide in recital, including his debuts at Carnegie’s Weill Hall and at Wigmore Hall in London. As an orchestral soloist and a collaborator in chamber music ensembles, Henry has performed at many of the most prestigious music festivals including “The Festival of Two Worlds” – Spoleto (both in Italy and Charleston, SC), Lucerne Festival (Switzerland), Mostly Mozart at Lincoln Center (NY), Caramoor Festival (NY), Casals Festival (Puerto Rico) Festival Méditérranéen (France) Festival Albert Schweitzer, Zino Francescatti Festival (France), Bravo! Vail Valley Music Festival (Colorado) and the San Miguel de Allende (Mexico). He collaborates with such artists as Jean-Yves Thibaudet, Lukas Foss, Chantal Juillet, Ann Queffelec, Pierre Barbizet, Carter Brey, Eugenia Zukerman, and Emmanuel Strosser, among others.

In addition to his career as a performing artist, Henry has been involved in the artist management field, having created Henry Gronnier Associates Management in NY and successfully nurtured young talents who went on to have international careers. He then served as Vice President of Jack Mastroianni Associates, working with some of today’s celebrity artists including Cecilia Bartoli, Mirella Freni, Angelika Kirschlager, Julia Fischer and Jean-Yves Thibaudet.

Henry is a faculty member at the Colburn School of Performing Arts in Los Angeles and an Assistant Professor of Violin at the University of Southern California (USC) Thornton School of Music.
